Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring ’13: Chadwick Bell’s Nirvana Working My Last Nerve(ana)

September 6, 2012 • Fashion Blog, Fashion Shows, New York Fashion Week Spring '13

Summary:  The theme for the Chadwick Bell RTW Spring ’13 collection may have been ‘nirvana’, but I could not get past the music. Like nails on a blackboard, the music was so screechy and disturbing, I was unable enjoy the show. I just wanted to get out of there! The collection might have been about enlightenment, clarity and a spiritual journey of self-discovery, but I was quickly realizing all I was discovering was a massive headache. I kept waiting for the show to end so I could escape the soundtrack of hell. So I decided to focus on taking pictures to distract me from the background noise.

Since the journey took us through the Southwest dessert, the color palette was mostly neutrals with a few pops of color like acid green, emerald/teal and mauve. The cuts were mostly lean and clean with a few floaty, draped tops and dresses, some with sheer panels (those were my favorites). There was also a profusion of lace which were pretty, but nothing new. Form what I can tell leather and lace in ALL colors are going to be everywhere for Spring ’13. I found the Chadwick Bell dresses much more successful than the suiting. Hopefully next season they will opt for a soundtrack that is more befitting of the aesthetic. Or maybe I’ll send someone else just in case they decide to torture us again.
