A rendering of the new luxury hall at the NYC flagship

Macy’s To Add “Luxury Hall” To Herald Square Flagship

Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Longchamp will be among the luxury brands showcased on the Broadway side of the Herald Square flagship beginning in November. Macy’s is launching a “luxury hall” as part of the store’s four-year, top-to-bottom $400 million renovation, according to WWD.

Macy’s multilevel hall of luxury will occupy a total of 19,000 square feet, on the first and second floors, plus a mezzanine that’s being built. Vuitton will be the largest shop and is expanding to three levels and more than 8,000 square feet, although the exact square footage has not been revealed, and is adding shoes to the assortment including handbags, small leather goods and men’s accessories including luggage. The 6,200 square foot, three level Gucci shop will offer handbags, small leather goods, women’s and men’s shoes, jewelry and watches. Longchamp will offer handbags and small leather goods in 1,500 square feet over two levels. Burberry, with three levels and 3,600 square feet, will feature large and small leather goods, rainwear and the latest technology live-streaming runway shows and brand content.

Other upgrades will include an express elevator to the sixth floor, where a restaurant will open in November; entrances are being transformed into welcoming “portals”; the marble mosaic floors are being extended; LED lighting is being added, and escalators and “grand” staircases will be created to lead to the mezzanine and luxury shops.

What To Do During Fashion’s Night Out

If you’re stepping out to FNO in NYC this evening you probably already have an idea of which shops you’ll stop at and the events that are worth making an appearance at. To make things a bit easier, here is a list of interesting things to add to your own.

Bergdorf Goodman: Make a memory that will live on forever. With photographers and photo booths all around, there’s ample opportunity to take a regrettable photo that will be live-streamed on Tumblr.

Macy’s: Stop by Macy’s to roll cigars with Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ Scott Disick. Oh, and Kim will be down the street at Lord & Taylor.

alice + olivia: Pretend that you never even made the decision to go out on a Thursday night and veg out at alice + olivia’s slumber-party-style event. Movie marathons, sugary snacks, and an eighties dance party almost makes abandoning our PJs on a weeknight worth it. There’s also a pillow fight at the meatpacking location, so maybe your boyfriend will want to come too.

How It’s Made: The Hermès Kelly Bag

Once  you see what goes into the creation of a Kelly, it will make much more sense that there is a two year wait list.  Kelly is the most complex bag Hermès makes. The handle alone takes four hours and five pieces of leather. At the Festival des Metiers Exhibition at 583 Park Avenue, Hermès artisan Pierre Grosperrin showed how he puts together one of these solid, buckled beauties.  The bag, which was famously named for Grace Kelly after she held it to shield her pregnancy, has endured every change in trend and is still the ultimate status symbol.
