Fashion’s Night Out NYC 2012 Celebrity Edition: Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Chastain, Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham

September 7, 2012 • Celebrity Style, Events, Fashion Blog

The question isn’t whether you went to went mad for fashion during the 4th annual Fashion’s Night Out, the question is where did you go and who did you see? There were so many places to go and people to meet, that even Second City Style bloggers in both Chicago and New York couldn’t get everywhere they wanted to.

Perhaps the real question shouldn’t be who had the best party or what’s the latest fashion? Instead, let’s talk about something we can all relate to–the power that is having a celeb at your grand store affair. In New York, there was, of course, the bonding that went with Victoria Beckham and Anna Wintour at Bergdorf Goodman, and the “man and his muse” with Sarah Jessica Parker meeting Oscar de la Renta. Twilight’s Nikki Reed skipped the MTV Video Music Awards, where most of the Twilight cast showcased a new preview of their upcoming movie, to karaoke with Michael Kors and Kate Upton. And there was a real party going on at Calvin Klein where actress Gabrielle Union, singer Bryan Adams, models Kasia Struss and Zuzanna Bijoch, singer/model Karen Elson, professional basketball player Dwayne Wade all made appearances.

Again, the question isn’t who DID you see, but who DIDN’T you see??

What is Fashion’s Night Out?

Just in case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know about Fashion’s Night Out (are you serious?)– Fashion’s Night Out was launched by American Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour and is now a fashion force to be reckoned with in over 19 countries.  In New York, it begins the first night of New York Fashion Week and is currently in its 4th year. It was initially created to jumpstart the economy during the global recession of 2009. The celebs who weren’t at the MTV Video Music Awards (tell me again why they chose to have the two events on the same night) were hanging out at designer shops with models and designers, who were giving away limited edition products and partying all night long.

Jessica Chastain at Jeffrey New York

Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain may have gone from overnight movie star to Broadway actress, but this fashionista is still going to be a fixture in the front row of our dreams. She didn’t disappoint at the Jeffrey clothing store in the Meatpacking District, where she posed with co-star Dan Stevens, wearing a blue leather dress with black trimming a black cuff, and black round-toe pumps.

Nicole Richie and Jennifer Hudson at QVC

Do magenta lips work well with a red dress? This was the question of the night at QVC where singer and Weight Watchers spokesperson Jennifer Hudson clashed her fuchsia lipstick with her red bandage dress ensemble. I actually kind of liked it. Also at QVC, Nicole Richie in her boho chic print and teal dress (with long sleeves of course!) and black booties!

Nikki Reed, Kate Upton, and Debra Messing at Michael Kors

Twilight star Nikki Reed decided to forgo the MTV VMA extravaganza to kareoke with top designer Michael Kors at his Madison Avenue flagship.  She brought hubby and American Idol star Paul MacDonald, of course. Using the hashtag #KorsKaraoke on Twitter, Reed, Kors, and pals Debra Messing and Kate Upton picked the best singers of the night! Kors also offered limited-edition Fashion’s Night Out products…and Kate Upton offered up her assets–ahem–in a revealing turquoise dress that was open on top but delightfully knee length on bottom.

Victoria Beckham and Anna Wintour at Bergdorf Goodman

Was “Posh Spice” trying to outdo the American Vogue editrix of the hour? Victoria Beckham lit up the night when she appeared at Bergdorf Goodman in electric orange! Beckham, the fashionista who always  looks put together, but is still effortlessly chic, wore her hair in a fish tail braid and had criss crossing on her dress with cap toe pumps. She signed copies of the September issue of Vogue magazine, alongside American Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour. Rachel Zoe also made an appearance.

Kim Kardashian at Lord & Taylor

On 5th Avenue, fashionistas had the chance to meet Kim Kardashian. But it came with a price, of course! A $123, at that! Kardashian signed gift sets of her new fragrance “True Reflection” looking every bit the fashionista in a sharp-shouldered Tom Ford dress with a huge gold belt that accentuated every curve. Was this Kanye West‘s influence?

Sarah Jessica Parker and Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta, New York’s most debonair designer, recently received a Couture Council Artistry fashion award feted by heavyweights such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Diane von Furstenberg. He celebrated at Fashion’s Night Out with Sex and The City star SJP at Saks Fifth Avenue where he was interviewed by Fern Mallis, former CFDA executive director and former IMG senior vice president.

Karen Elson, Gabrielle Union, Ryan Lochte, Hanneli Mustaparta, Bryan Adams, Dwayne Wade, And Lots and Lots of Models at Calvin Klein

Was there something in the water over at Calvin Klein? Because everyone who is anyone attended this event.  (See for yourself with Hanneli’s photos on the Calvin Klein Tumblr!) At the Madison Avenue store, basketball player Dwayne Wade promoted his book, while models like Hanne Gaby Odiele and Kasia Struss posed for pics! Model/Singer Karen Elson and Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte also made appearances with designer Francisco Costa.

There’s more where that came from! We did not even mention Alessandra Ambrosio at Victoria’s Secret SoHo, Azealia Banks at MAC SoHo, Cyndi Lauper at Manolo Blahnik, Solange Knowles at Diane von Furstenberg, Kellan Lutz at Bloomingdale’s, Karlie Kloss at Juicy Couture, and Miss Piggy at DKNY.
