Summary: Twin sisters Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim debuted Mataano‘s Spring 2013 collection to an enthusiastic crowd at the Upper West Side’s Landmark on Park. Before the fashion fun took place, guests mingled whilst enjoying hors d’oeuvres and cocktails deliciously prepared by Bravo’s Chef Roblé and Co.
Ayaan and Idyl’s inspiration for this season came from the idea that women should travel in style. “We wanted the kind of easy, flowing pieces women can throw in their suitcases when traveling to the beaches of Malibu, Mombasa, or St. Bart’s.” This resulted in a collection of soft, cascading fabrics in a neutral color palette, with pops of color and prints. The show began with light and breezy silks and cotton pieces in ivory and brilliant shades of white. Mataano then wowed the crowd with eye-catching, colorful numbers such as a bright green jacket – accented with gold buttons – and a canary yellow jumpsuit. Mantaano complimented their coastal style with the perfect beauty look to match: beach-chic braids and a nude makeup finish. The combination of the two couldn’t have been more chic.
Colors: A soft color palette featuring coral, dusty rose, mint green, ivory, and ocean mist.
Fabrics & Textures: Python-print, sheer overlays, stretch jersey, cotton, and linen.
Key Looks: White pencil skirt topped with a popping green over jacket; Bright yellow cinched-waist jumpsuit; Python-print silk pants with a stark white, v-neck vest.
