Chicago House, the first Midwest provider of AIDS housing and support services, hosted its kick-off reception at Macy’s last Thursday. The goal of the event was to pre-sale tickets to its 4th Annual Speaker Series Luncheon and get individuals more acquainted with Chicago House and what they do for the community. Drinks and light hors d’oeuvres were served and Stan Sloan, CEO of Chicago House spoke on its current goal: to spend some time focusing on the transgender community and letting them know they are as welcome as their LGB brothers and sisters.
The selling point for this year’s Speakers Series was the scheduled keynote speaker: Kenneth Cole, entrepreneur, humanitarian and fashion designer extraordinaire! Cole will join an impressive list of Speaker Series alum including Whoopi Goldberg and Bill Clinton.
Since its founding in 1985, Chicago House has served as a safe haven for the LGBT community, providing them with shelter, food and other amenities that they may not have access. Today, they provide housing and support services for over 1,400 people per year. Services provided include employment training, medication adherence, and prevention programs.
