Beauty Giveaway: ‘The Blush’ Hosts the Beauty Blogger Battle at Sephora!

Monday night, you might have noticed there was a slight chill in the air in Chicago. It wasn’t from the sudden temperature drop in the weather (brrr!), it was from the icy glares of the bloggers at the Blogger Beauty Battle! Three Chicagoland beauty bloggers, Sandra Witten of Pink Memo, Aramide “Deedee” Esubi of The Sassy Peach and yours truly from Second City Style, gathered at the Sephora Northbridge store on Michigan Avenue to battle it out for the ‘best winter beauty set for this season.’ The caveat was that our picks had to total under $100 and that one of the items had to be blush. The winner not only had bragging rights, but would be able to give away their complete set of beauty essentials.

And as a Chicagoan born in raised, it’s hard to set your sights on just any items…you need some products with moisture, dual purposes and ones that won’t break the bank. So here were my picks:

The products I chose!

Tarte Cheek Stain in “Tickled”, $30 – Though it says that it’s just for your cheeks, it can be used for both lips & cheeks! An ‘it’ color that can be easily buildable for a look that can go from day to night in a few extra swipes. Though the color looks like a vampy burgundy, it comes out a sheer peachy red. Plus, it smells like peaches!

Boscia B.B. Cream, $38 – That winter wind can be brutal. The best way to keep your skin looking its best without being too heavy is this B.B. cream by Boscia. It’s an oil-free, skin-perfecting “Blemish Balm” that creates a flawless finish as it moisturizes and nourishes the skin. With SPF against the bright sun that shines even in the winter, the cream also diminishes the appearance of pores, fine lines, and uneven skintone while providing long-wearing, natural coverage that conceals imperfections. And since it only comes in one color, there’s no way you can pick the wrong shade!

Jack Black Lip Balm in “Black Tea & Blackberry” $7.50- This isn’t just a lip balm for winter, it’s amazing all year ’round! A super conditioning lip balm features a hint of tea flavor without being overbearing and protecting SPF. It soothes chapped lips while not having that glossy look and even if the wind blows, your hair has little chance of getting stuck to your lips. So what if it’s for men? Bonus: it helps your lipstick stay on longer!

Sephora by OPI Nail Color in Curve-aceous, $9.50 – My favorite color of the season: opaque dark red! Perfect for day or night, this nail color is classic and on-trend at the same time. The color has a hint of metallic sheen without the chunky (and outdated) glitter pieces.

Clinique Lash Power Mascara in “Black Onyx”, $16 – No look is complete without a touch of mascara. This long-lasting Clinique version is one of the best. Throughout rain, sleet and snow, this mascara is sure not to budge. And the dark color means you can layer on another coat at the end of the day without clumps.

Well, after a fierce judging panel at TheBlush.com scrutinized and debated on which set was best and Second City Style came out on top! Obviously cause we are having the giveaway! Woot!

  • You’re definitely missing a fragrance. My choice would be PureDKNY because it has a very distinct, yet calming smell … which is perfect for the hustle and bustle of the Holidays! You could also maybe throw in the Donna Karan Cashmere Mist anti-perspirant for the same reason. Your collection is FAB though! xx, Angie (sweetbabyblues7@msn.com)

  • Great picks and the product that I believe is missing is something that may be basic but it sure can transform any look into a fun or smokey cat eye look in no time. The product I’m talking about is an eye pencil and the ones that I love are the 24/7 pencils from Urban decay, they come in fun colors and you could get them in sets. My eye look no matter if it’s a day look or night look doesn’t look finished without an application of my Urban decay zero pencil or the other fun colors. Thanks

  • Excellent job on getting a great facial cream and lip balm, but that nail polish won’t look good on dry flaky hands! A hand cream would really round out the set. My favorite is the Shea Honey scented hand cream from L’Occitane.

  • I would suggest Josie Maran’s Argan Oil- it can smooth hair, moisturize nails and cuticles and soothe winter-ravaged skin. And happier skin and hair make everything else look better!

  • As a final touch I’d add Coco which is a sensual, mysterious, and provocative for the touch of spiciness for the winter ahead. sonsethues at yahoo dot com

  • You’re definitely missing the Caudalie Divine oil. The small bottle will suffice because a little bit of oil goes a long way. This product would definitely fit into a small budget. It also has many purposes for its use. Hair gets very dry during the fall and winter months so this oil will help lock in moisture while also adding shine. You can use it on your skin after a bath while your skin is still damp to stay moisturized and also smell good. It’s also great for your nails.

  • Urban Decay’s NAKED palette! it’s absolutely amazing, I couldn’t live without it!

  • Sephora’s instant depuffing roll-on gel is a must for the days following the festivities!

  • I think the makeup artists they have on staff would really complete this set. they can come to my house and show me how to apply that cheek stain so I don’t look like a clown! :)
