There are stars like Reese Witherspoon who go for the bright and clean-cut All-American look. She likes to wear royal blue tunics or classic floral print dresses. So if one day we were to see her in a low-cut black dress or leather pants, we might just scratch our heads. But it could potentially work, right?
This week’s article is about four celebrities that have changed their look at at least one point in their lives and have gotten us to stand up and take notice. It’s not because they’re wearing a designer they’re not privy to or because they’ve decided on the color of a garment. It’s about an entire wardrobe change that makes us wonder, but somehow wins us over in the end.
Here are four celebs who have changed their wardrobe in ways you wouldn’t expect.
The elegant, off beat and colorful style of the real-life Elisabeth Moss is very different from her character on Mad Men, who is prone to chic checkered dresses and conservative looks on the show. But regardless of her personal style, it was still ultra-strange for me to see Ms. Moss in this floral Mulberry moto jacket with short shorts and black booties. Moss has been known to carry around a Mulberry clutch, and there’s nothing wrong with her edgy look (it fits her cool asymmetrical ‘do) but it’s just not something we would expect from the actress who seems prone to wearing bold jewel tones and not floral jacquard. Kudos to Moss for pulling it off, but the look definitely not something we would normally expect.
Hey Kristen Stewart! We get the Barbara Bui sneaks. We get the Zuhair Murad floral and the plaid thrown on, on a bad day. We get the Proenza Schouler prints and the Balenciaga color blocking and the sheer bodysuits and the graphic black and white pants. But what we don’t get is this short citrus-y yellow minidress from Christian Dior. There are a lot of reasons why. Nothing wrong with citrus yellow, nothing wrong with Dior, but wow, we never expected you to wear Dior. And if you were going to wear Dior, why not pick something a little bit more elegant in signature Dior style? Is this you or your stylist or Raf Simmons doing? If you’re going to go for punky, perhaps you should go back to Balenciaga.
Ashley Greene is the Donna Karan queen. She likes to dress herself up in bold fuschia Donna Karan shifts or pink frothy Donna Karan gowns. And yes, while she’s known to wear a black Donna Karan dress (or two or three), we’re not typically used to seeing her in a midriff-baring lace number with gothic overtones. Such was the case for Ashley at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards dinner where she showed up in a sheer Wes Gordon creation that looked like nothing we’ve ever seen her wear. Hmm is this the direction Ashley Green should be taking?
Marion Cotillard wears Dior. Not a huge surprise there, as the French princess is known for wearing elegant, timeless, and beautiful looks from the label she represents. So what’s so different about this Dior frock? Perhaps it’s experimental nature, which seems uniquely different from what we’re used to seeing on the woman who’s known for sweetheart necklines and sweet ball gowns. Granted, Dior has been somewhat experimental on its own lately thanks to its new style (which we saw on Cotillard when she gave Dior Couture its first red carpet run.) Still, we wouldn’t expect her to show this much skin or get as experimental as she did with this peek-a-boo Dior dress while promoting her film ‘Rust and Bone’ in Hollywood.
