Last week I attended a meet and greet in the workrooms of the Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy’s on State Street. Attending were new designers who were interested in applying for the next program. Some of the 2012 Designers In Residence were on hand to show them their offices and workroom and tell the applicants about the program. I heard a lot of encouragement from Chicago Fashion Incubator designers. However, they told me they think the year is going way too fast and they will miss it! They are a nice group of enthusiastic designers who became good friends and share their ideas and resources. I was familiar with this year’s designers and their work, especially since they were all recently featured during last month’s Fashion Focus Chicago.
LaTonya Williams specialty is the white blouse, with designs that are both flattering and timeless in her Elizabeth Smith Fashions line. Move over little black dress – every woman needs a little white blouse! Visit Elizabeth Smith Fashions.
Lagilelei Nadeau had success with her jewelry line and right now she is going into production with a womenswear line for Spring 2013. Stay tuned! Her clean designs and textiles are amazing. Visit LagiNadeau.com
Rachel Frank creates dramatic couture pieces, which she understands are expensive for most people to purchase, so she has been selling many of her accessories. She is producing some cool and interesting pieces, such as collars, bustiers and floral headbands. Visit RachelFrankDesign.com.
