Lauren and Carol of Second City Style have very different approaches to closet editing. For one, Carol hoards shoes. And two, she has some items in her closet she has held on to for 20 years! Since Lauren lives in NYC where space is extremely limited, she has to edit her wardrobe every season to make room for new fashion finds! So for Lauren if she has not worn it in over 2 years, she gets rid of it. Enter Hello La Mode.
Hello La Mode is a certified luxury resale marketplace. Each purchase is manually certified by an in-house expert for conformity to the designer trademarks and overall condition before it is sent to the buyer. No more bad surprises like with eBay! So you don’t have to worry that the item is a fake or was worn to death!
So to celebrate the launch of Hello La Mode, both Lauren and Carol have cleaned their closets. Who knows? Our cast-offs could be your treasures! To create your own Hello La Mode profile where you can shop my closet along with the closets of other Style Coalition bloggers, click here – you’ll even get $50 off any purchase just for joining! One new Hello La Mode member will be awarded a $3,000 shopping spree, with the winner chosen on 1.31.13.
YSL Tribute Pumps (Black & White Ivory) Size 39, Originally $660
Yes, these are the original Tributes. The ones that started it all! I just had to have them and plunked down my credit card like it was nothing. Then I had to go and have kids and my feet grew a half size. So they have just been sitting in my closet. My feet are never going to fit in them again, so sadly it is time to part with them. Hardly worn.
Manolo Blahnik Silver Open-Toe Shoes (Butterpump) Size 39, Originally $600
I can’t believe I am actually going to part with these because I purchased them to get married in! I love these shoes, but see reason above for why I am selling them.
Fendi Black Baguette Bag, Originally $600
When Carrie Bradshaw got one, I had to have one too. The baguette was everything! Now that it is celebrating it’s birthday there is a renewed interest. It’s black fabric with a silver buckle and a black leather strap.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Purple Corduroy Jacket Size 12, Originally $350
When I worked at Neiman Marcus I became fixated on this jacket when it first came out. I just had to have it. Problem is, it never looked that good on me! I have since learned the lesson, don’t buy what doesn’t make you look AMAZING.
When I look at my closet, I can see that I love to collect dresses, bright colored tops (and, of course, shoes). The dresses are often statement dresses that stand out either with a bright color or interesting fabric. I like to buy one-of-a kind pieces, but the problem is since they are somewhat memorable, I only wear them a few times. Some of my dresses are special to me, so I think I save them rather than wear them! When I realize I have not worn something for over a year, even if it is in perfect condition I need to pass it on to someone else.
This season, I have been liking longer dresses so I have great dresses that I am not wearing because I don’t like short dresses – on me. Another woman would look fabulous in them! I still love these pieces, just not on me!
Kors Black Leather Sheath Dress, size 4, gently worn, Originally $450
This dress is a classic for every Bond Girl. It is too cute, but unfortunately too short, at least for me!
Shoshanna Silver Velvet One Shoulder Cocktail Dress, size 4, worn 2 times, Originally $375
I wore this dress to our Second City Style Anniversary Party and to New York Fashion Week, so at least I can keep the photos. But that was it! Worn only 2 times, it is super comfy and would be fabulous for New Years Eve.
Fendi Black Patent Oxford Peep Toe Platform Shoes, worn but good condition, size 39.5, Originally $710
I tried, but I really needed the size 40! They are just a tad too small. The oxford style would look great with the new menswear looks.
