On paper this does not sound like a perfume I would like, frankincense and white musk? Um, no thanks. However, I was given a sample at my local H&M when purchasing my second round of the MMM collab collection at checkout. I didn’t think much about it and tossed it in with the rest of my perfume samples and there it sat for a week. Then I remembered it and thought I would at least give it a try. Well, it was love at first sniff. That’s not entirely true, it actually grew on me and now I adore it. Untitled L`Eau by Maison Martin Margiela is not new and actually launched in 2010, but I had never heard of it (great marketing job, by the way…NOT). This first fragrance by the Belgian designer is a citrus/musk fragrance for both women and men. I normally HATE unisex fragrances, but oddly this one smells more feminine to me, so I am not sure I would like it on a man.
By naming it (untitled), Martin Margiela wanted to let his first fragrance speak for itself. Inspired by apothecary vials, the minimalist bottle seems dipped in paint. The top notes are citruses, Mandarin orange and Amalfi lemon; middle notes are African orange flower, green notes and mint; the dry down is frankincense and white musk. I promise it is unlike any other scent at least I have never smelled before and is so unlike anything else I normally wear…and for that reason, I’m now obsessed.
