The term “last season” is so, well, last season! These days, fashion comes, stays and stays a bit longer. Problem is, predicting which trend is a keeper for another round and which one was a fad can be a little difficult. Don’t worry, Second City Style is here to help you nail which trends you can hang on to, and which ones are most likely “So 2012.”
1. Lands From Afar
Last year, we were living for the music festival style: bohemian dresses, cut-off denim with flowing tops, and hair headbands. This year, the bohemian look has gone global. Go for pieces with exotic prints such as: lotus from Egypt, bright yellows and orange hues like the Sahara dessert, and pink cherry blossom prints that echo the infamous trees in Japan.

2. Crop Tops
Crop tops were popping up everywhere, especially in Hollywood. Everyone from Rihanna, Kristen Stewart, and Katy Perry were baring their midriffs in a sign of surrender to the trend. Fashion week was no exception, as bralettes and bandeau tops were spotted at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Charlotte Ronson and Ruffian’s Spring 2013 shows. Guess it’s time to tone up those abs, ladies!

Stripes have always been a cool choice for a stylish casual look. The classic Parisian look graphic was a major hit last year – perhaps fueled by Taylor Swift’s overuse of it while promoting her new album – and the trend carries over into the spring. Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and Tommy Hilfiger all used the timeless print at their Spring 2013 shows.
Dolce and Gabbana Striped Dress, $2225
Print was all the rage this past year. Even our denim couldn’t stay away from them! The trend didn’t die with the new year, it just received a little update. Prints are bolder and more symmetrical. Diamonds, circles and squares pressed together to create an optical illusion is the key to nailing this updated trend.
5. Chic Sunglasses
Even though spring seems like ages away, it’s not too early to put a little extra spring style into your accessories! Ever since Prada introduced its Baroque sunglasses, sunglasses have come to the forefront of fashion accessories. For this new season, pick a pair that has both a fun shape and a cool design. You’re sure to turn heads!
