Model Karlie Kloss cut off seven inches of her hair for a four-page feature story in the January issue of Vogue. The magazine called the look ‘the Chop’, but others are calling it ‘the Karlie’. Hairstylist Garren Defazio is responsible for the 20 year old model’s new look, which rests just above the shoulders, with layering in the front and bangs. It echoes Jane Birkin’s signature 1960s haircut.
“I gave her a personality by cutting it and it encourages her natural wave. It’s modern because it’s airy and rumpled. Short hair is in,” Garren said. The cut has also allowed Karlie’s hair to be healthy again. The modern cut even inspired a Huffington Post headline to ask “Karlie Kloss’ Haircut: The Next ’Rachel’?” referring to Jennifer Aniston’s Friends-era layered cut. Alexa Chung has worn a similar cut to Karlie’s for years and versions of the haircut have been spotted on models Arizona Muse, Catherine McNeil, Karen Elson, and Lily Kwong.
