It’s wintertime, and when celebrities aren’t vacationing in tropical locations or skiing in Aspen, they’re working the red carpet, hitting up events and promoting their latest endeavors just in time for awards season. But even when they’re merely strolling out on the town, they’re doing it in style. That means hitting up all the trends, no matter the weather or amount of risk-taking involved. Here are some of my favorite celebrity trends, of late, as showcased by some of the most stylish women in town!

Cutouts in Cold Weather: Kerry Washington
Here’s an unusual trend being worn by women in winter.  It shows skin, but not too much (beware the midriff!). We’re talking about cutouts – in this case, well-placed cutouts on dresses and gowns. These super slashes happen along the arms, at the waist, and at other spots which looked both sophisticated and sexy on girls like Kate Bosworth and Alessandra Ambrosio. My favorite was Kerry Washington – mainly because this fashionista has always been the kind of girl to play up amazing trends, but never in a way that makes it look like she’s trying too hard. This was certainly the case with her Peter Pilotto dress at a movie premiere. It showcased cutouts at just the right place and worked that mixed print trend perfectly. Other girls seen wearing cutouts this season include: Gwen Stefani, Kate Hudson, and Nicole Richie.
Mismatched Prints That Work: Emma Watson
We’ve already mentioned the mixed print trend above, but we’ll have to mention it again – because it’s just so “IT” this season.  Again. It’s a tricky trend — because it needs to be worked in just the right way (Peter Pilotto did it right for Kerry Washington with two very different fabrics) and if it isn’t, it could look really bad (i.e. Solange Knowles in a Just Cavalli cornflower blue floral skirt suit with contrasting red and white ruffled blouse). Emma Watson, it seems, knows how to do this well and maybe it’s because the mismatched prints are from the same designer. She wore a Miu Miu top and skirt which could have looked off – but the tough leather blazer seemed to play the whole thing down. Other celebs seen making mixed prints look good include Olivia Palermo and sometimes (just sometimes) Whitney Port.

Looking Better After Boyfriend: Sandra Bullock
In the wake of youngins Taylor Swift and Kristen Stewart and their major boyfriend blunders, it’s nice to see the experienced fashionistas and unfortunately, experienced boyfriend bashers, look better after breakup. Case in point: Sandra Bullock, who continues to look better and better after the breakup of her marriage to Jesse James. She wore this beautiful Vera Wang pinstripe skirt and asymmetrical top at the People’s Choice Awards this January and boy, we were impressed. Taking a cue from Sandra are stars like Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Anne Hathaway (who married in Valentino this year!)
