Shoe designer, Nicholas Kirkwood, was awarded the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund prize. He will receive 200,000 pounds (about $315,860) of funding to help expand his business. Other designers who were up for this prize included, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto, Roksanda Ilincic and Emilia Wickstead.
Along with the monetary prize, the designer will also reap the benefits of a bespoke program which is created to assist him in achieving his goals over the next year and a half. The intention of this program is to elevate Kirkwood from a developing fashion label to a global brand.
Kirkwood launched his initial collection in 2005 and today his shoes are no stranger to the red carpet. He also made a cameo during the last London Fashion Week as he provided heels for the Philip Treacy show as well as the 2012 Victoria’s Secret runway show. In May 2011, Kirkwood opened his first London store and a year later a New York location. The busy designer also launched his first men’s collection in January of this year.
