Marc Jacobs, Creative Director For Diet Coke
Marc Jacobs was named the 2013 creative director for the Diet Coke brand and has created brand packaging for the soda in lieu of its 30th Anniversary in Europe. According to him, his design for the soda is “whimsical, feminine.” The first wave of products will arrive next month in 11 European countries.
Jacobs’ creative designs can be seen on three cans, three bottles and in three ad campaigns. Each of which corresponds with a recent decade in fashion. These creations reference the iconic looks from the Eighties, Nineties and Aughts. The designer and creative director let slip that they would incorporate repetitive prints and fashion illustrations as well as a tweaked Diet Coke logo.
Nordstrom Supports CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund
The retailer, Nordstrom, is opening up boutiques for 10 finalists at its flagship stores as well as its concept store, Treasure and Bond.
According to Jeffrey Kalinsky, a member of the selection committee and vice president of designer merchandising at Nordstrom said that they currently carry lines from three of the candidates. They also have a definite interest in the other seven designers who aren’t currently represented.
“Emerging American designers need all the support we can give them as an industry,” Kalinsky said.
This year, about 200 hopeful designers applied to the fashion fund. The pool was cut down to 50 individuals and then even further down to 10 designers.
Kenneth Cole Makes A Comeback
After a seven-year hiatus from the runway, Kenneth Cole has returned. However, Cole wants to express more than just fashion at his show. He wants to bring AIDS Awareness to the runway as well. The designer, who has been involved with AIDS activism for 27 years, will also be honored by amfAR for his work.
Cole, who is chairman of amfAR, is working with IMG Fashion to spread the charity’s message throughout New York Fashion Week. The amfAR gala, which is part of the official show calendar, will commence with a ribbon cutting my Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Cole has also partnered with actress Sarah Jessica Parker for this event. They’ve created a limited-edition bag that will be auctioned off at the gala. The bag will also make an appearance at Cole’s runway show on Thursday.
