Summary: Monika Chiang has been our go-to brand for edgy yet sleekly elegant pieces for a few seasons now, and her Fall 2013 collection is no exception! Chaing states that her inspiration for Fall/Winter 2013 “began with a recurring dream I’ve been having. In the dream, I’m running as fast as I can until I take off into flight.” Remnants of this dream are apparent in pieces that echo aviator style. Colors are militaristic, in a non-obvious manner. Army green is given a refreshing spin with structured sleeve with a folded oversize lapel mini dress while a flight suit is given a glamour makeover when set in silk and accented with a studded plaque belt.
Chaing didn’t totally ignore color in this collection. Spots of cobalt blue can be spotted in a zip shoulder turtle neck sweater and trapunto sleeve mini dress. Shades of red were also present in a bonded wool-neoprene coat and burgundy skinny leather pants.
Accessories told another story in this presentation. Oversized clutches in gold and zinc hugged the models’ wrists, perfectly complimented the somewhat neutral colored pieces. Additionally, oversized chokers and layered necklaces in gold and blends of ivory and silver graced the necks, added extra pizzazz to the exaggerated necklines of the tops and dresses.
In all, Chang’s collection is perfect for a downtown girl looking to add extra flare into her fall wardrobe. The pieces are perfect for layering and experimenting.
