Summary:  There was no one who surprised me more by stepping out of the box and taking a more classic and grown-up approach than former reality show contestant turned real-life fashion designer Christian Siriano. For the Fall 2013 ready-to-wear collection, Siriano ditched the super-dramatic ballgowns and overly-embellished pieces for something a bit more subtle but a lot more sophisticated. Walking into the hall and first laying eyes upon the lipstick red velvet curtains and twinkling chandeliers, I thought we were in for another frilly show but in fact, it was quite the opposite.

“My Autumn/Winter collection is inspired by the golden age of the Russian Opera. The lavish interiors of Saint Petersburg’s Mariinky Theatre inspired me,” said Siriano of the collection. “There are whispers of Russian military details … they are very regal and royal with a 1880s influence, but modern and powerful for today’s sexy woman.” With deep and rich jewel-toned colors, gilded and embossed embellishments, there was nothing in this collection was short of show-stopping. I actually heard the crowd gasp when the final look, a golden beaded illusion gown made an appearance on the runway. The sleek silhouettes were formed to fit the body where almost nothing was left to the imagination but it never strayed towards the vulgar. In fact, the collection displayed a simple yet elegant touch.  I would take note and see how many dresses end up on the red carpet because that’s what these were made for. You can expect the young starlets (such as Ashlee Simpson or Shailene Woodley who were sitting front row) to don these dresses very soon. This is the Siriano I think we’ve all been waiting for and it feels so good that he has arrived.
