I don’t know if you know what a big deal going backstage covering beauty is for me, but I have a phobia. A phobia about going backstage. I just feel like I’m in the way. No matter where you stand, someone is rolling their eyes at you for being there. The models look like they want to kill you, and the makeup artists just want to do their jobs. The only people who pay you any mind at all are the PR reps and you can tell they feel in the way too. I just don’t feel comfortable anywhere where I’m not really wanted.

Anyway, with iPhone in hand I headed backstage to see what MAC was doing with the look for Vivienne Tam. Her makeup palette is usually bold so I was actually looking forward to this, but I wanted to be in and out in 10 minutes tops. Unfortunately that wasn’t to be. I had an early call time so when I walked in, only one model’s face was completed and she was having her hair done. However after a few minutes head makeup artist, Maud Laceppe was ready to talk to us as she applied makeup to the second model’s face.

To create this 90’s sophisticated “punk chic” look, you will want to start with foundation which in this case was a mix of a little Pro Longwear Concealer with Face & Body and apply with fingers. Rub into the neck if needed. Maud also commented she wanted the face to have a little shine so you could use a little olive oil. For the eyes she used Pearl and Shell cream color on the eyelids, lips, nose and highlights of the face.

Apply Taupe blush flat onto cheekbones and blend into the apple of the cheeks and the temples. She then set the face with Soft and Gentle Skinfinish all over the face. The lips were the obvious focal point. She lined the lips with Current lip liner and then colored in the entire lips for a matte finish. She then used equal amounts of black and purple to create depth. She then used waterproof mascara and nude eyeliner into the inner waterline.
