Summary: You can count on Jenny Packham for one thing…formalwear. It’s her thing. If she made pant suits and daywear I’m not sure she could pull them off. So why even try? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. When I sat down before the show and read her inspiration for her fall collection were the great intellectual salons of 17th century Paris where the ‘salonnieres’ (strong-minded women) gathered to discus the arts, literature and culture, I knew it was going to be quite a beautiful and refined show. To say I was excited was an understatement.
British designer Packham has earned a reputation for gorgeous ready-to-wear eveningwear (and bridal gowns) that have become a red carpet staple (who can forget very pregnant Kristen Bell’s stunning gown at the recent Golden Globes? Yes, it was Jenny Packham) not to mention a favorite of Kate Middleton. However, her gowns manage to be wearable, attainable and not just for celebrities. Some of my favorite looks in this collection were the more relaxed silk gowns with sheer tulle expertly draped and twisted in alluring ways, some almost like a cape. Add some sparkle and Packham’s stunning accessories (we were all ogling the jewelry, especially the bracelets) and you have a complete look sure to impress. Everyone should be able to feel like a princess, or a Parisian salonniere.
