New MAC Flagship Opens on the Champs-Elysées

MAC Cosmetics is expanding with a futuristic flagship opening today on the Champs-Elysées. The goal of this new location was to provide customers with a unique and memorable experience while shopping.

The new store has an arched ceiling, a gleaming white floor, and innovative touches including an LED display and reflective black glass panels. It is the most expensive real-estate investment ever made by the Estée Lauder company.

The 4,022-square-foot Paris location is the largest flagship for the brand. The 40 makeup artists who work at the new Champs-Elysées store are from many different countries and speak 15 languages. The VIP areas and private makeup rooms are unique to the Paris location, which will also be used for events and parties.

To celebrate the store’s opening, 600 limited-edition lipsticks in a unique color saying “MAC Champs-Elysées” were made. Another five flagships for MAC are slated for Beijing, Shanghai, London, Rome, Tokyo, and Seoul.

Gucci Unveils ‘Green’ Handbags

Gucci unveiled its first line of bags made using leather that is legally produced in the Brazilian Amazon and is guaranteed not to cause deforestation. The bags were made in collaboration with Livia Firth, the Italian wife of British actor Colin Firth. She founded the company, Green Carpet Challenge, which encourages luxury brands to produce sustainable looks for the red carpet.

The Gucci for the Green Carpet Challenge Handbag Collection features three styles: the hobo, the top-handle tote, and the New Jackie. The bags are made from maroon colored leather with hand stitching and woven detailing. They also have antique gold hardware and bamboo tassels. The handbags went on sale on gucci.com and at Gucci flagship stores worldwide.

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of PPR, said the bag launch was the luxury division’s first sustainability project affecting the whole supply chain. Gucci is also making a donation of $65,000 to the National Wildlife Federation to help promote deforestation-free Brazilian leather.

Diesel Celebrates Collaboration Edun

Diesel used the Gaîté Lyrique theater in Paris to celebrate the launch of its 25-piece capsule collection with Edun. The clothing label was founded by Ali Hewson and her husband Bono and all the clothes are manufactured in Africa using cotton from Uganda. Bono told WWD he did not help design the collection. “Our marriage would end if I advised Ali on design,” the U2 singer said, smiling. “Unfortunately, this is not an equal equation; she knows a lot more about music than I know about fashion.”

Solange Knowles performed her song “Losing You,” while wearing a Diesel dress and Kenzo shoes. After party guest Jessica Alba leaves Paris, she is launching a new lifestyle book that includes recipes and organizational tips. Other guests included Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West.
