The Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy’s on State Street welcomes six new designers-in-residence. The year-long residency focuses on learning business of fashion. The designers receive training and mentoring so they can take their businesses to the next level.
Each year, CFI provides six up and coming Chicago-based designers work space, mentoring, and workshops. They learn about time management, creating business plans, media training, and building a brand strategy. The designers also participate in more creative classes like preparing patterns for production and color and proportion theory. Workshops and classes are taught by Jane Hamill, Director of Education and Designer Outreach.
The designers will also have the chance to establish relationships with a network of industry professionals including buyers, merchandisers, lawyers, accountants, and branding, marketing and communications experts. The CFI workroom welcomes the following designers for the 2013 Designers-In-Residence: Project Runway’s Katelyn Pankoke, Agnes Hamerlik, Olivia Hwang, Shelby Steiner, Takako Yamanaka, and returning from the 2012 class is Lagi Nadeau.
