Jane Pratt Launches New Beauty Site, XoVain

Jane Pratt’s new website XoVain covers beauty in a different way than her other popular site, XoJane. It’s “glossier looking” and less gritty (think back to former beauty editor Cat Marnell‘s edgy and controversial pieces). The images and posts are more polished and produced than those on XoJane. Pratt wanted to launch XoVain because the most popular part of XoJane has always been beauty.

However, Pratt wants the beauty coverage to take a realistic approach. The contributors will take on real beauty issues and relate them to their everyday lives. They will also provide readers a way to shop the products featured in posts. Maybelline is the official launch sponsor of XoVain.

“We’re covering beauty in the context of your entire life, not just how to get a look,” Pratt said. For XoVain, it’s about getting to know “this cast of characters” who are writing and “going through someone’s life with them.”

Slapped Senseless Settled

Remember when fashion publicist Lynn Tesoro  was slapped by some irate French women at the Zac Posen show last September? We do. Anyway, she has settled her $1 million lawsuit against Marie-José Susskind-Jalou and her daughters Jennifer Eymere and Vanessa Bellugeon of Jalouse and L’Officiel magazines. The suit claimed Susskind-Jalou slapped Tesoro in the face while Tesoro looked for a seat for the French journalists after 60 chairs had been removed by the fire marshal. Seriously. To add insult to injury Eymere bragged to WWD about the incident, “Now you know you don’t [bleep] with French people.” WWD reported the suit was settled yesterday. Sources say Tesoro received an apology from the women. At the very least!

Vineyard Vines Creates Suites for Lark Hotels

The nautical-inspired clothing brand has partnered with Lark Hotels, a boutique hotel group. Lark Hotels has properties in coastal New England and Vineyard Vines has designed two guest suites. The first suites will open later this month at Kennebunkport, Maine’s, Captain Fairfield Inn, then on June 9th at 76 Main on Nantucket, Massachusetts. More guest suites are planned at other locations at Lark hotels this year. The company also owns hotels in Portland, Maine, and Newport, R.I

The hotel suites mix the brand’s preppy, nautical aesthetic with the modern amenities the Lark Hotels are known for. Coastal touches in the suites include edging on the window shades from Vineyard Vines belts and bed bolsters and pillows made from boardshorts material.

“When we started Vineyard Vines 15 years ago, we always envisioned it to be a lifestyle brand, not just a clothing company. Since then, we have been looking for the right opportunity to venture into the hospitality business, and we’re delighted to start that adventure with Lark Hotels,” said Ian Murray, cofounder and CEO of Vineyard Vines.
