Spring ’13 Footwear Trend: Gladiator Sandals

OK, I am going to admit it here. I am not crazy about the gladiator sandal trend. First of all, it’s nothing new. I bought my first pair in 1988 and another pair four summers ago. That’s enough for me. Second, I really don’t care for the style that goes up the leg like a boot. But that’s me. If you have skinny calves and want to rock the gladiator boot, I say, go for it! I, however, will take a pass. Either or both are in for Spring ’13. Whether you opt for gladiator sandals with heels or not, one thing is for sure…they don’t seem to be going anywhere. The high or boot version just screams fashion victim to me and rarely have I seen them look good, but if you chose to go that route, please style them correctly. They look best with a maxi skirt with a slit so a bit peeks out. Or consider paring them with a plain black sheath dress. When you wear them with a mini skirt or jean shorts is when you run the risk of looking ridiculous. You need a a whole lot of attitude to pull the high version off, so if you aren’t a little quirky, take a pass. Now I see myself trying a mid calf version (like in #4 above). They would look fantastic with skinny cropped white jeans. Hmm. Here are 10 pairs of gladiator sandals available right now:
