In an all too familiar move within the industry, time has actually run out on the print publication Time Out Chicago. Joe Mansueto, Chicago billionaire, has sold the publication to the company that already owns the New York and London editions. The Time Out Group plans to retire the print version and go completely digital.
Many members of the staff including president and editor-in-chief, Frank Sennett, and Publisher Randy Hano were laid off. “One insider said more than half the staff was cut.”
President of Time Out North America, Jennifer Morgan, said that the company is going to keep maintain an editorial staff but use the Time Out North American staff controlled by Oakley Capital, an investment company, to handle the business aspect of things.
April 18 will the be last time that the weekly print edition of Time Out Chicago will appear.
