The Oscars, it ain’t! You can always count on the MTV Movie Awards to get us excited about fashion in that playful, less formal, statement-making away. Since MTV is made for young adults these days (when did that happen?) it’s no surprise to see the attendees at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards were mainly teens and young adults — looking to have fun with fashion in that casual high fashion way we’ve come to know from the Grammys, the People’ s Choice Awards, and MTV.
Still among the cutesy fashion (Disney stars!) and the bizarre fashion (HELLO cigarette hat!) there were some lookers who got it right. Here are the best dressed females of the 2013 MTV Movie Awards:
Honestly, I thought she was going to wear Miu Miu. Still, you can always count on Kerry Washington (and Michael Kors!) to liven up the most common skin-tight little black dress. This fashionista always takes risks and ALWAYS wows!
Pleasantly surprised by Zoe Saldana‘s experimental Givenchy look — in a good way. This Givenchy Fall 2013 dress, when worn on the wrong person, can look shapeless and strange (with its high slit, and mixed floral/polka-dot print, but luckily Zoe Saldana makes it look both statement-making and striking.
I recently saw a pregnant Kim Kardashian wearing a striking red dress at an event. I was hoping for something along those lines for the MTV Movie Awards. However, there is nothing really wrong with this Saint Laurent little black dress, which is actually quite covered up at top — more covered up than I was expecting from this reality star, especially at the MTV Movie Awards. Sometimes, Kim truly surprises us when she wears the wrong thing on the street but then remains too conservative when she has a chance to go a little more wild.
Sparkly gold Julien Macdonald is quite predictable on Selena Gomez, but it doesn’t look bad.
While everyone else was wearing minidresses, both JWoww and Snooki wore gowns. Luckily, neither of those gowns were strange or over-the-top. I can even say this is the best Snooki has ever looked. So while maybe its not the right event to look as dressed up as they do, I’m still shocked they cleaned up.
At first I thought Amanda Seyfried was wearing Just Cavalli and then learned it was Three Floor. I have never heard of this brand, but I do like the nude sleeves, blue lace, and leather that is part of this look. I wish she did the red carpet. You don’t have to show cleavage to look uber-stylish. Speaking of which, I’m loving Karina Smirnoff‘s fairly conservative red peplum number.
This navy Lela Rose mini with heavily beaded cap sleeves looks divine on Brittany Snow.
There seems to be a pattern with Emma Watson at the MTV Movie Awards, always wearing some kind of standout minidress featuring a halter top and an A-line skirt. This Maxine Simoens number is noticeably less standout, than say, her Peter Pilotto of the past. Guess this Trailblazer Award winning actress knows what looks good on her.
I don’t know much about Smiley actress Caitlin Gerard but I do know that this green lace dress would have looked much better without the ugly gray Converse sneakers. I get she was trying to go for something experimental here, but she picked the wrong pieces to mix together.
Chloe Moretz is typically fashion forward, but she looks like she’s aging in this mom appropriate Louis Vuitton denim dress with patches and her mousy brown hair.
We know what Karlie Kloss was going for when she chose this sexy Cushnie et Ochs dress. It’s what she’s always going for…something else that shows off her entirely too slim figure and in this case, her abs. I don’t like it.
Not surprised at all by this outfit on Ke$ha, because come on, its Ke$ha! I do like the Gypsy Junkies pants, but the non matching shirt, fringed black vest, and black hat make it all wrong.
Here we go, the much talked about cigarette hat. Everyone was talking about how great this architectural, goth Marco Marco dress would have looked without the cigarette headpiece Hana Mae Lee chose. And while, we’re all for looks to remember at the MTV Movie Awards (Gaga wore a meat dress for God’s sake), did Lee’s headpiece really have to be a cigarette? Why not just tie an alcohol bottle up there? Or an ugly shoe? If she wanted people to talk about her look, she certainly got them going, but in the wrong way.
