The number of stars who wowed last night on the 2013 Met Gala’s red carpet were too many to number. The biggest night of the year where fashion meets art did not disappoint as celebrities from all industries, styles, and eras came out to showcase their interpretation of this year’s theme, “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” And while many of the punk iterations were more symbolic than literal, we did love the juxtaposition of statement red carpet gowns with dramatic “undone” hair and makeup, one of the night’s best being former Twilight start Ashley Greene. Often a poster child for DKNY, Greene opted instead for a voluminous Marchesa gown from the Fall 2013 collection, and tapped none other than the Great Ted Gibson to achieve her distressed, yet still gorgeously put together hair look for the event.
Ted was kind enough to share his how to’s and expert tips on how to achieve this punk glam red carpet look:
This was a really fun hair moment for Ashley Greene. We opted for half up half down with a coif in the front. I am calling it young punk chic!
To get this look for her, I used Build It Blowdrying Agent and Fix It Gel for amazing texture and a rough up feeling. I used my fingers and hands to blowdry, not a brush so that it had that rockabilly flair. After the hair was dry, I took a section of hair twisted it into a coif in the front then pinned it towards the back of the head. Then, I took the sides back and sprayed with Beautiful Hold Hairspray.
