Did you know this Friday – the day that kicks off Memorial Day Weekend and the unofficial start to summer – has been designated as “Don’t Fry Day” to encourage sun safety awareness and to remind everyone to protect their skin while enjoying the outdoors? It makes sense since May is Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection & Prevention Month and the first Monday of each May is Melanoma Monday. Basically, the entire month is dedicated to skin protection from the sun.
I wish I had known about the dangers of sun (or at least listened to them) when I was younger, but it’s never too late to start covering yourself up. And because no single step can fully protect you and your family from overexposure to UV radiation, the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention encourages individuals to:
• Generously Apply Sunscreen
• Seek Shade
• Wear Sun-Protective Clothing
• Use Extra Caution Near Water, Snow and Sand
• Get Vitamin D Safely
• Not Burn or Tan
A brand that I recently discovered at the drugstore that offers amazing products for my entire family is AVEENO. They now offer a wide range of sun care products with superior broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection and exclusive ACTIVE NATURALS® ingredients including: AVEENO® Protect + Hydrate® SPF 30, 50 & 70, AVEENO® Baby Continuous Protection SPF 55.
I love Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion with SPF 55 for my kids. It’s is formulated to provide better, longer-lasting sun protection from the sun’s harmful rays. Made with soothing oatmeal, it helps prevent moisture loss, is water resistant is fragrance free and offers superior UVA/UVB protection with their Active Photobarrier Complex™
Then for me and my husband is Aveeno Active Naturals Protect + Hydrate SPF 30, 50 and 70 Lotion which is oil-free, fast absorbing, non-comedogenic and sweat and water resistant.
