I have been asked repeatedly to name my favorite foundation. For nearly 10 years it was unquestionably Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I like a little more coverage, yet I want it to look natural. The beauty of Luminous Silk is that you can apply a little or a lot depending on your coverage preference or the day and it always looks great. Once I discovered it (after years of collecting bottles I hated) I didn’t really waiver. Yes, I tried other brands because I have to for this site (part of the job), but I always went back. At now $60 a pop I have been known to scrape the bottom and after I dropped a shattered a nearly full bottle last year, I cried real tears. When I bought the replacement bottle the makeup artist behind the counter told me to wrap a few rubberbands around it so it doesn’t happen again. Great tip!
At any rate, more recently I have tried some new foundations, BB Creams and CC Creams that have made me think it’s time to expand my list. I love a top 5 or 10 list as much as the next person, but I personally only came up with four. So I asked our beauty editor Kelley to help and confirm my picks and here is what we came up with. So without further ado, here is Second City Style’s Top 5 Foundation Picks (currently, and this is sunject to change);
I discovered this during the last holiday season while at Sephora. I had a gift card and asked one of my favorite and trusted consultants what she thought the best foundation in the store was. She led me right over to the YSL section. If you are a fan of Touche Éclat (and why wouldn’t you be?) you will love the foundation version! It’s a truly weightless formula that illuminates and highlights the contours of your face, and downplays shadows without that awful glitter. I’m not sure how it does it, but I think it’s magic.
This new foundation by CoverGirl was the real shocker! Of all people I thought I would be the last person to adore a foundation from the drugstore…but I do! I can’t believe I am going to say this, but the coverage and feel is very similar to the Luminous Silk. I find myself using this foundation quite a bit now. Kelley also agrees it’s pretty amazing. The only drawback is that you need to know your shade or be really good at color matching because there is nobody to help you.
This was more Kelley’s pick than mine, but if you are looking for total coverage, COVER FX reigns supreme. It’s a two-in-one foundation and concealer that is completely buildable. However, if you want a little lighter foundation the brand also offers their water-based, liquid Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation which is very good as well. Both formulas come in a ton of shades.
4. LORAC CC Color Correcting Cream, $28
I know this is not a foundation perse, but I am absolutely obsessed with this new CC Cream from LORAC. The coverage is better than others on the market. It leaves my skin more natural-looking and with a semi-matte finish which is perfect for summer. This 6-in-1 specially-tinted makeup neutralizes, primes, moisturizes, brightens, soothes and seriously makes skin look healthy and youthful. It’s also made for those with skin sensitivity.
I think I have already waxed poetic about this foundation. Still a favorite, but now there are others to love too!
Did I leave out your favorite? If so, let me know which ones.
