It may seem as if nail colors and art are becoming more outlandish…and they are. I have tried the statement nail thing, but it’s just not me. If you put caviar, jewels or spikes on my nails, I’m going to pick at them. Trust me. I’m an Essie Mademoiselle girl to the core. Thank goodness going back to basics is also on trend this season. That’s great news for those of us who still prefer a minimalist nail of neutral shades. Natural tones like nudes and light pinks were shown on many Spring ’13 runways such as; Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Rag & Bone, Valentino, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs.
“People are returning to traditional colors,” said Nadine Ferber, co-owner of Manhattan’s Tenoverten nail salon. “The pared-down aesthetic feels fresh.”
I for one am thrilled. So here are some of my favorite nail colors from some of my favorite brands;
1. Deborah Lippmann ‘Naked’, $17
Deborah Lippmann basically started the skin-colored nail trend, but this sheer bare beige color continues to be one of my favorites.
2. Essie ‘Mademoiselle’, $8
Any time I get a manicure and can’t bare to search through the bazillions of bottles, Essie Mademoiselle just rolls off my tongue. It’s my go-to color. I always have a bottle on hand. I love it because you don’t really notice chips.
3. Julep Nail Vernis in ‘Pippa’, $14
This neutral camel crème is sure to be a crowd pleasure. If you have not yet tried Julep polishes…you should.
4. Sally Hansen Gel Strips ‘Shell We Dance’, $14.99
Gel trips by Sally Hansen are a God-send because they are easy to apply and last for almost 2 weeks. This light as air pink will work brilliantly and you won’t get sick of it.
Another brilliant product by CoverGirl! This polish literally lasts for a week without the need for a top coat! Even though the picture above looks a little mauvy, this color goes on pale pink cream. Use two coats if you like a more sheer look and 3 if you prefer a little more opaque.
6. L’Oreal Colour Riche ‘Walk on the Beach’, $5.99
Bring on the greige! This best-selling nailpolish by L’Oreal is a light, creamy grey with faint beige undertones.
7. Butter LONDON ‘Cream Tea’, $15
I am totally hooked on butter LONDON polishes! This shade is perfect for a barely there look and isn’t pink! Another new favorite of theirs is Yummy Mummy which is medium beige with a little glimmer.
8. Sephora by OPI ‘I Need Space’, $9.50
This sheer, pale caramel looks great on everyone. Looks like a French manicure without all the work.
