Haute Couture Making Waves Again

After last week’s Fall 2013 Couture fashion week, editors are noticing a shift into a more modern era of luxury fashion. In the last few years, designers scrambled to keep couture lines afloat; now, couturiers have to add seats for their shows for new, young customers from around the globe, who are driving business. Designers have to cater to those clients, showing more wearable, though spectacular, daywear and suiting. More culturally diverse materials also appeared, with an emphasis on glittering evening wear. This may mean less groundbreaking designs, but the new, less frilly couture is boosting sales.

Bill And Hillary Clinton Honor Oscar de la Renta

During the opening reception of Oscar de la Renta’s new exhibit in Little Rock, Arkansas on Monday, Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton lauded de la Renta for his contributions to fashion, his loyal friendship and philanthropic efforts. The exhibit, “Oscar de la Renta: American Icon” at the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, follows the designer’s life, beginning with his native Dominican Republic. But it mainly showcases his beautiful designs from the last decade, with gowns worn by Chelsea Clinton, Taylor Swift, Jessica Chastain, and more.
