New Exhibit at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts

Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts’ latest exhibit, “Hippie Chic,” highlights the fashion of the movement that defined a generation. Gender bending and bohemia, ethnic embellishments and psychedelic prints are all present in the exhibit. But “Hippie Chic” is about the high-end designers that influenced the era – such as Geoffrey Beene and Halston. Exhibit highlights include velvet suits and jackets from the London boutique Granny Takes a Trip and a 1970 tunic dress by Yoshi Leeger, all set inside installations that feature the infamous shag rugs and retro wallpaper of the time. “Hippie Chic” runs from July 16 through Nov. 11.

Jill Scalamandre Chosen to Head Philosophy

After Coty Inc. acquired beauty brand Philosophy in 2011, the brand suffered some major setbacks. In 2012, Coty paid $515 million in impairment charges to adjust the value of the trademark and account for weaker sales than expected. But, they may have found a remedy for the skin care brand – Jill Scalamandre, who has held numerous posts in the beauty industry, from chief marketing officer at Chrysallis Inc. to senior vice president of global beauty brands at Avon Products, Inc. Joining Coty Inc. just after their public debut, Scalamandre will help boost Philosophy’s overseas presence, which makes up 90% of its sales. Scalamandre’s immediate project will be Philosophy, although she is set to support Coty’s other skin care brand, Lancaster.

Kardashian Kollection for Lipsy will feature higher-end garments ranging from $45.36 to $226.81. The collection features many embellished pieces, such as sequined biker jackets. Kardashian Kollection will debut in the U.K., Spain and the Middle East in October. Oh joy, another Kardashian line.
