Get It Now: Summer 2013 Swim Trends

July 29, 2013 • Get It Now, Magazine

Purchasing a new swimsuit can be an activity that’s fraught with peril at the best of times, so we certainly understand why many otherwise trend-conscious women stick with the basics. However, there are plenty of fabulous options that are chic and stylish, yet not overly revealing (after all, almost no one besides supermodels and teenagers looks perfect in a string bikini). Here are some of our favorites:

Fringe Bikinis

Granted, this option is for the more confident ladies amongst us, but these styles can actually minimize a larger bust-line and maximize the drama. Try this cobalt blue SeaFolly bikini – its perfect with a (fake) tan, aviators, and a pair of metallic sandals.

Whether it’s a one-piece with only one shoulder or a more daring two-piece or mono-kini, mixing up the silhouette is always stylish. Try a sleek look like this black one-piece by Tory Burch. An added bonus – this swimsuit just needs a sarong to be ready for a beach/pool-side dinner or cocktails. Just make sure you have the sunscreen situation sorted out to avoid strange tan lines!

This look is always in style, but there are more old-school Hollywood glam swimwear options than ever this season. Esther Williams suits are classic yet contemporary, especially this cherry red number.

Intricate Straps

Another choice that requires judicious SPF applications, going strappy and a little bit dangerous is a bold way to stand out poolside. This zebra print Marlies Dekkers bikini is a perfect example of a strappy suit that makes an impact.

Covering It Up

While we all need stylish beach cover-ups, sometimes you want more coverage in the water itself, especially if you are surfing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, or other sporty activity. Rash-guards like this long-sleeved citron and turquoise Ralph Lauren Blue Label selection are perfect for that, and as an added bonus, they protect your skin from the sun.
