We’re always thrilled when an internationally renown designer can make a stop over in our fabulous city. So as soon as we heard that the British virtuoso of Sicilian descent, Antonio Berardi, was being featured by Saks Fifth Avenue and Sun-Times Splash, we simply had to make an appearance. Known for his immaculate tailoring, exquisite draping and elegant silhouettes, Berardi is beloved by women the globe over. And he’s quickly becoming the toast of Tinseltown as well, having dressed A -listers like Cate Blanchett, Betonce and Chloe Moretz in recent months. His appearance within the Library of the posh Public Hotel was accentuated with models floating through the crowds in his Fall and Resort designs.
We had a quick second to catch up with Berardi, who boasts a beautiful British accent (we confessed we wondered if he would sound more British or Italian, to which he obliged us with a great impression of a Chicago accent!). When asked about the inspiration for the glittering green pieces that were cruising by, he noted were part of his Resort 2014 collection which was an extension of Fall 2013. He explained his Fall collection was very architectural, modern and clean with linear lines, geometric embellishments and structured trains that took editors’ breath away. Resort, he explained, was a more organic statement, paying homage to the iridescence of the landscape of Brazil, the Amazon in particular.
The hand beading was amazing to witness up close, a testament to the off-runway presentation. When I mentioned as such to Berardi he said he understood, and he appreciated the chances for his clients to see the details of the collection up close. On the topic of runway, I asked Berardi on his plans for the upcoming fashion week season. Having shown in Paris and Milan in the past, Berardi is now a regular fixture at London Fashion Week (though he lives in Milan!) He told me he was still looking for a venue for his Spring 2014 show, but that he prefers minimal, clean spaces to showcase his designs. And with collections this gorgeous, it’s clearly not hard for them to steal the spotlight at any venue.
Following last night’s event, Saks is holding a designer trunk show with Antonio Berardi today! From now until 4 p.m, meet the designer and view his stunning Fall 2013 collections at Saks Fifth Avenue, 700 N Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60611. We advise to head over now. Tt was wonderful meeting such an amazing designer!
