New Roger Vivier Retrospective To Coincide With Paris Fashion Week

A retrospective celebrating the life and work of Roger Vivier is coming to the Palais de Tokyo in Paris during Paris Fashion Week. Entitled Virgule, etc…Dans Les Pas De Roger Vivier (Comma, etc…In the Footsteps of Roger Vivier), after the designer’s famous comma-shaped heels, the exhibit will feature about 140 footwear designs. Curated by Olivier Saillard, director of the Musee Galliera, the restrospective will not only follow the life of the brand’s eponymous founder, who passed in 1998; it will also bring attention to the more recent history of the footwear label. In 2000, the brand was brought back to life by Diego Della Valle, chairman of Tod’s SpA, and Bruno Frisoni became creative director in 2002. The exhibit will run from October 2 to November 18.

Benrus Launching Two New Projects

Watchmaker Benrus is introducing two new lines. Founded in 1921, the American label is creating a line of bags and relaunching their collection of watches for fall. The appointment of Stephen Schatchtel as vice president of bags and accessories at M.Z. Berger & Co., has moved the brand into a new direction – remembering its past while focusing on the future. During World War II, Benrus was a key supplier to the armed forces, creating the Sky Chief watch model, which became the official watch for American pilots. The pieces from the fall collection will bear a “U.S. Military” moniker and range from $30 to $60. The watches will retail between $75 and $225. The collections will launch for fall at specialty retailers including Tilly’s, Zumiez, and Newbury Comics.

Rebecca Minkoff Using Larger Budget To Go Digital

With a budget up 200 percent from last year, Rebecca Minkoff is focusing on digital advertising for fall. The designer will be allotting her funds to websites such as Style.com, as well as other fashion media sites. The campaign begins in August, featuring model Aline Weber photographed in Brooklyn by Ben Weller. Minkoff wanted a more playful ad campaign this season, and used illustrator Madeleine Carroll to create a “cool collage effect,” she said.
