Yes, NYC is a shopping mecca. However, the ONE thing I have always felt Manhattan has lacked is my beloved Nordstrom. When I lived in Chicago, the department store was my home away from home! So when news broke that the Seattle retailer was finally coming to town, I was elated. Today’s NY Post reported Nordstrom will make it’s name more than known in midtown as they have spent $102.5 million to own the site of its future Midtown flagship store, which will anchor one of the tallest buildings in the world, according to property records reviewed by The Post.
The deal for the land under the proposed store at 225 W. 57th St. which will have an entrance on the east side of Broadway. The store will occupy the first seven floors of an 88-story residential condominium tower that will stretch 1,550 feet. That means it will be taller than the Empire State Building, which is a mere 1,454 feet to the tip of its antenna.
Now that all the land has been purchased, Nordstrom can begin development of the giant tower, or beacon of retail therapy – if you will. The new store will have 175,000 square feet of floor space and is slated to open in 2018. I will be there with bells on and credit cards in hand!
