Celebrating The Start of Fall Fashionably Light With Smirnoff Sorbet Light

September 24, 2013 • Advertorial, Fashion Blog, Food, Wine & Spirits

My father is a true vodka lover. He prefers it straight up, on the rocks. Sometimes with a couple of olives, sometimes with a twist of lemon and sometimes just a splash of water. I’ve tried to get in touch with my Russian roots, but the fact is…I only like vodka laden with mixers which usually means calories. Therefore, I tend to stick with wine.

Recently though I tried Smirnoff Sorbet Light Mango Passion Fruit over ice and was surprised to find it had a touch of sweet along with its fabulous flavor. I was so excited to tell my father I now like a vodka over ice! I also thought it would be perfect for the Start of Fall cocktail party I planned for my fellow editors coming in from Chicago to cover the shows for New York Fashion Week.

I wanted to come up with a drink that still hinted at summer, yet was light. I don’t really believe in drinking my calories (I’d rather chew them) and everyone watches what they eat during Fashion Week. Since the Smirnoff Sorbet Light in Mango Passion Fruit is my new favorite I decided to use that one for my drink. I came up with the idea for a Mango Mash. I used mango pureed with a little Stevia as my mixer. The drink is light, refreshing and just a tad sweet.

I also needed to keep the food I served reduced calorie so I stuck with crudité and my low-fat Green Goddess Dressing, a fennel and olive salad and fresh fruit.
