The Frye Company Opens In Chicago and Celebrates 150 Years

The Frye Company, well known for its handcrafted footwear, opened three new stores this fall and Chicago is home to one of them! The other two stores are in Boston and Washington D.C.. All three cities were chosen for their rich history. I think another good reason to choose Chicago is our inclement weather is perfect for their boots! Creative Director Michael Petry was in town for opening day on Wednesday and I told him Chicagoans are fans of the Goodyear welt construction boots for good reason. “So many people share their Frye stories with me. The beauty is that they are timeless and so well constructed you can keep them forever.” Michael also told me that they have specially designed boots for their 150th anniversary, some with stars and stripes cut into the leather, inspired by Jasper Johns’ Flag artwork. “You will notice that Jasper Johns’ artwork is not solid colors, but you can see the brushstrokes, just like the variations from the vegetable dye on our leathers. Our boots are hand made so no two will be exactly alike. You won’t see a lot of wild colors, either, because they are all vegetable dyed.”

The Chicago store is located at 1007 North Rush Street, in the prime Gold Coast shopping area near Prada, Barney’s New York and some of the best people-watching restaurants in Chicago. The Frye Company does not just sell boots, they make handbags and shoes for men, women and children. Get your feet over to The Frye Company store in Chicago where they carry 800 styles, and pick up a pair of American heritage!
