In case you have been living under a rock…sweatshirts aren’t just for sweat anymore. Who would have thought these uber comfortable tops would ever be considered high-fashion and chic, but sure enough their day and due has finally arrived. Actually the trend started last year, but luxe designer sweatshirts are replacing their more confining cousin, the sweater again this season. Look for color-blocking, leather panels, lace, and bold graphic prints. Now I’m not talking about the sweatshirts with cutesie sayings like “Homies” or “Comme Des F*ck Down” which I think you should leave to the younger set, but a sweatshirt from designers you admire or even from ASOS or Zara which has a dressier look that appeals to you, should certainly make it’s way to your closet.

How should you style your chic sweatshirt? Think about pairing it with skinny trousers or black leather jeans…or even a pencil or flared skirt. A sweatshirt is still considered rather causal so be sure to dress up your bottom half. You might want to add a crisp white menswear-inspired shirt underneath or wear your highest stilettos. It’s all about balance. Isn’t it always? Here are 10 luxe designer sweatshirts to consider;

1. Scotttsdale Jean Company Fifteen Twenty Banded Raglan, $165

2. C&C California Long Sleeve Lace Sweatshirt, $138

3. Halston Heritage Printed Sweatshirt Blouse, $325

4. Hinge Bow Back Jacquard Sweatshirt, $68

5. Textile Federation Sweatshirt In Oriental Print, $75.94

6. Tibi Houndstooth Cotton-blend and Ponte Sweatshirt, $295

7. Rachel Zoe ‘January’ Calf Hair Sweatshirt, $425

8. Jason Wu Raglan Sweatshirt, $1995
