Celebrity Style: Four Summer Trends That Carry Over Into Winter

October 21, 2013 • Celebrity Style, Magazine

Although the weather can be deceiving depending on where you live, summer is officially over. But, that doesn’t  mean our favorite summer trends can’t carry over to the colder seasons – depending on how you style those trends. These four celebs are proving well-known summer-like floral and neon are still OK to wear in the winter months and they’re totally showing us how it’s done.

Let’s take a look at the fashionistas who are getting it right showcasing four spring and summer trends that carry over into winter.

Floral – Ashley Greene

Florals in bloom have become a timeless trend, merely for the fact that flower patterns will never go out of style. Neither will floral prints that jump off the dress, top, or pants. Ashley Greene clearly shows us this in her Valentino sheath paired with beige-y yellow pumps. Other ways to carry over the floral trend into winter: pair the print with a long black cardigan or a tough leather jacket to offset the bold and bright. Even black boots will give that punch it totally deserves. Or of course, remember that this trend also comes in a dark floral pattern I’m particularly fond of in winter. Stars like Kelly Osbourne, Milla Jovovich, Kerry Washington, and Katy Perry have already got it down pat – wearing designers like Prabal Gurung, Chanel and Erdem.

Leather – Drew Barrymore

We know, we know – leather is a winter trend, right? Not if you ask the hottest ready-to-wear designers of the spring/summer 2013 season. Leather was in for this past season, but there’s no doubt it’s back in for fall and winter, too. Perhaps the spring and summer is best for colorful leather pieces, like this blue TK skirt worn by Drew Barrymore. For fall/winter, going back to timeless black is probably key – who doesn’t love a good leather pant, bomber jacket or that acclaimed ASOS leather pencil skirt we’ve all come to love? And these days, leather tops from Alice + Olivia and TK are all the rage – be a bit careful if you’re a big busted girl, but do try this at home.

Lace – Hilary Swank

Lace is not just for wedding dresses and bedroom curtains, ladies! It’s also not just for funerals or black-tie occasions. If you’re into wearing lace, try oomphing it up with a little color – Hilary Swank did when she wore this beautiful pink lace number from Michael Kors to support him at the God’s Love We Deliver 2013 Golden Heart Awards. If you can wear lace in the summer then you can certainly dress it down for winter – white lace tops with denim are still all the rage. Feminine and glam, but still freeing, lace is the perfect addition to any fall or winter ensemble. Try pairing with a mod metallic pump for the ultimate ultra-cool touch.

Neon – Kristen Cavallari

Be careful with this one. Neon is a tricky trend to pull off especially if you’re over 30 because you risk looking like a schoolgirl. But it is possible to wear the neon trend as the weather gets cooler for a chance to add some brightness to a season that can often get muted down by black and gray. For some wintery neon, go for electric blue and fluorescent yellow or add just a pop of color on a scarf or a shirt, if you’re a little worried about going all out like Kristen Cavallari.
