From Punk To Preppy, We’re All Mad For Plaid

October 25, 2013 • Fashion Blog, Trends

I can’t think of another pattern that transcends both punk and preppy fashion styles than plaid. Can you? With punk references (think Vivienne Westwood) being resurrected and preppy (think Tommy Hilfiger) never really being out, plaid is having it’s day. Just look to the Fall ’13 runways of designers such as; Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs,  Stella McCartney, Sacai, Celline and Moschino Cheap & Chic. I prefer watch plaids (blue and green) or MacDonald Tartan or Buffalo Plaids (red and black), but a Macleod Tartan Plaid (yellow and black) works as well. I also prefer unexpected detailing like zippers, studs and leather – OK, so I guess I prefer the punk variety. Yes, retailers have carried plaid every fall seemingly forever, but this year expect to see it in coats, moto jackets, shoes, bags and skinny cropped pants. The beauty of plaid is that any age group can wear it. Just be sure you style it so you look hip, not old – perish the thought. Here are some plaid pieces that should inspire you for Fall ’13.
