Can retailers really make it easier to buy jeans online? Some might say that’s a matter of opinion. It’s perceived that online shopping is supposed to be simple and convenient, but when shopping for jeans, quite often it’s the total opposite. According to a new consumer survey, jeans are apparently the most difficult item of clothing to buy online. Almost a third of shoppers identified jeans as the trickiest product to buy.
When purchasing jeans online there are always questions and uncertainties primarily about fit. Finding a pair of jeans to fit properly sometimes seems hopeless, but thankfully some e-commerce retailers are attempting to help customers make more informed purchase decisions by creating a tool to help narrow down the best jean fit and style.
ASOS, which is a global online fashion retailer offering over 50,000 branded and own label product lines across womenswear, menswear, footwear, accessories, jewelry and beauty, has created a helpful tool to enable consumers to make better choices regarding jean purchases. With this tool every product page includes a detailed product description along with a video to help illustrate the look and design of the jeans. The description also includes information on the model’s height and size jeans they are wearing to give more specifics on the fit.
ASOS recently rolled out a new “fit visualiser” tool, which allows customers to input the measurements of clothes they already own, to then compare against products on the site. The technology, which is provided by Virtusize, has apparently had a major impact on reducing the number of returns, and is also in use by Oasis, WESC and a number of other fashion retailers.
Retailers that have adapted some versions of the ASOS tool includes, Macy’s, Urban Outfitters, American Eagle and John Lewis.
