Beauty: Get A Faux Glow For Winter

December 9, 2013 • Beauty, Magazine

It’s almost officially winter and I’ve already had my share of colds, but I refuse to let my skin show the harsh realities that come with the chilly weather. Iadmit I love this time of year, cold and all, because it means warm fuzzy slippers, lattes and fun times. In order to look alive during the winter months, I put on a faux-glow with some of my favorite highlighters and bronzers.

I always have my staple highlighters on hand like MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, but upon a recent trip to a drugstore I found an amazing dupe by Milani called Baked Bronzer Pressed Powder in Glow! The application of this highlighter is the same as MAC’s Mineralize Skinifinish just at a much lower price (less than $10). Simply swirl your brush over it, buff and go. It provides the best sheen and radiance that’s not too much. Perfect for highlighting your cheeks and down the nose, this bronzer looks great on anyone.

When I think of highlighters I think of angelic glows and Smashbox provides just that. If you thought Smashbox Halo Powder was great, wait until you try Smashbox Liquid Halo Foundation. This amazing foundation gives skin a gorgeous sheen without looking oily. Utilizing 100 percent liquid light technology, it’s gel-covered pigments mimic photo filters to blur imperfections. It’s a zero effort foundation that you blend in with a buff brush to have the most gorgeous skin imaginable for the winter months.

If there is one thing Bobbi Brown Cosmetics does right, it is bronzers. Her brick compacts are genius, in that they can be worn as eyeshadow, highlighter and bronzer, and her new Limited Edition ‘Nude Glow’ Shimmer Brick is her best yet. For the holiday’s you can give this gift of ‘glow’ with this shimmering quartet of pearlescent colors that highlight the skin and make it look like its glowing from within. Gorgeous on any skin tone it also doubles up as an eyeshadow.

I know some of you may ask, “What’s the difference between an expensive and inexpensive bronzers? Don’t they do the same thing?” I can say some inexpensive bronzers, are close to exact duplicates of some of my favorite highlighters/bronzers, and one of them is e.l.f. Studio Bronzers. These powders are so sheer and provide the perfect hue of colors for $3! With 4 colors you can use individually or blend together for a fantastic glow these quads come in three different palette choices so you are sure to find the perfect one for you.

1. MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, $30

2. Milani Baked Bronzer Pressed Powder in Glow, $8.49

3. Smashbox Liquid Halo HD Foundation SPF 15, $42

4. Bobbi Brown Limited Edition ‘Nude Glow’ Shimmer Brick, $45

5. e.l.f. Studio Bronzer, $3
