Kristen Stewart Is Fresh Face of Chanel

Yesterday, fashion’s elite partied in Dallas for Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2014 “Metiers d’Art” Show. It was also announced that Kristen Stewart is the fresh face of the western-inspired collection. The campaign for the Métiers d’Art Paris‐Dallas collection is set to debut in May 2014 and the images were shot by Karl Lagerfeld. Chic partygoers in attendance included Alexa Chung, Dakota Fanning, Lily Collins, and of course Kristen Stewart. Even though Stewart’s appeal may have decreased since her affair with married director Rupert Sanders, she’s still the face of Balenciaga’s Florabotanica and was featured on the cover of V Magazine’s spring preview issue.

HBC’s Net Loss Grows

Hudson’s Bay Co. was impacted by its $2.9 billion purchase of Saks Fifth Avenue and saw its net loss grow to $124.2 million in the third quarter ended Nov. 2, compared to a loss of $14.4 million in the year-ago period. The company’s operations improved with normalized net earnings rising to $8.9 million, against the year-ago loss of $300,000. HBC also cited strong sales improvement, with total sales rising 5.8 percent to $984.1 million. E-commerce sales were $48.9 million, an increase of 58.3 percent compared to the third quarter of 2012.

Holiday Shopping Update

The holiday season is definitely in full swing, but according to reports, there is a shopping lull. This is affecting brick-and-mortar retailers, however online shopping is booming. Customers are shopping during certain dates of the holiday season and not others, which is bad for the aforementioned brick-and-mortar retailers. So far, the shopping lull is especially slow this year due to bad weather, a shorter amount of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the fact that markdowns began several days before and were extend beyond Thanksgiving Weekend. Things are looking much better for online retailers, as Cyber Monday sales were up 29 percent from last year. Online shoppers spent $1.06 billion on Thanksgiving Day, up 39 percent, and $1.93 billion on Black Friday, up 18 percent.
