A 13-foot yellow blowdryer blew through Chicago on Friday to celebrate the grand opening of Drybar in Lincoln Park at 1611 North Sheffield. The “no cuts, no color, just blowouts” destination marks Drybar’s 33rd location nationwide. This super-sized, working version of Buttercup, the official blowdryer and mascot of Drybar made appearances throughout Chicago from Friday through Sunday last weeken. Drybar fans were able to download the Drybar app and play an “Apply Heat To Get Lucky” game, with chances to win a free Drybar blowouts, a Floater (the Drybar signature 10-minute scalp massage), or free sample Drybar product.
Drybar provides blowouts at a flat price of $40, regardless of hair length or thickness. A wash and complimentary wine, mimosa, or coffee are included! Drybar’s style list reads like a cocktail menu including the Cosmopolitan (lots of loose curls), the Straight Up (simple and straight), the Southern Comfort ( big hair with volume), the Mai Tai (messy and beachy), the Manhattan (sleek and smooth) and for the little ladies, the Shirley Temple at $28.
Drybar was named one of the top “100 Brilliant Ideas of 2010” by Entrepreneur magazine. The idea was a natural for founder Alli Webb, a longtime professional stylist that came from her frustration of overpaying for blowouts at traditional salons. In 2013, Alli was named to the Fast Company “100 Most Creative People in Business” and the “Cosmo 2013 Power List” by Cosmopolitan magazine.
I had to opportunity to meet Alli after my fabulous blowout at Drybar Chicago. I told Alli how much I enjoyed my experience at Drybar and I like cocktail bars so I love the analogies. She laughed and told me once they started with the theme the ideas just kept flowing. (Oh – no pun intended!) I also asked her what was the best advice she ever received. She told me it was her parents saying “Treat others the way you would like to be treated!” She has passed this on to her stylists and I can say first-hand the customers have benefited! Get your girlfriends together and go to Drybar! My friends said my hair never looked better – so I’ll have to go back and now, of course, they want to go with me!
Drybar currently has locations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Boston and now – Chicago.
Appointments can be booked online at thedrybar.com, through the Drybar iPhone app or by calling 312.288.3087.
