Chico’s Goes International

Chico’s is taking its extroverted style of animal prints, jewel-tone colors and demonstrative jewelry to an international audience while moving into smaller markets in the U.S. and growing its product line. The brand is working on a more upscale prototype that will be taken internationally, with Canada as the first stop. Being tested in Boston first, the new store prototype has warm tones with subtle animal prints, a woven entry, luggage details on fixtures and artifacts layered in as props. The higher-end Black Label collection is rolling out in 2014 featuring cashmere, leather and velvet. It includes jewelry, scarves and handbags. For the woman who works, there’s the new line, 9 to 5abulous. Chico’s will also be adding swimwear to the resort book this year.

Shopbop Launches App

Shopbop launched its first iPhone application this week. Available through all Apple iTunes Stores internationally, the app carries over features from the Web site, including personalization options My Hearts, My Wish List and My Designers, and features push notifications for sales and low inventory. Items can be filtered by price, and the app was designed with 1.5x product zoom, as opposed to 1x zoom on the Web site.

Elie Saab To Release New Scent

The new scent, L’Eau Couture, takes inspiration not only from the brand’s ready-to-wear — specifically its spring collection that’s full of pale green hues — but also from the notion of springtime. The new fragrance — Elie Saab’s fourth since its signature scent made its debut in 2011 — is due out in France and the United Arab Emirates starting in late January, with most of the rest of the world following through April.

Perfumer Francis Kurkdjian created the green-hued, “soft almondy floral” fragrance that includes in its top Calabrian bergamot essence, plus notes of magnolia, rose and lemon. In the middle is an orange blossom note — a signature of Elie Saab scents — while in the base there’s an accord of green almond plus a vanilla infusion. The 30-, 50- and 90-ml. eau de toilette sprays will retail in France for 43 euros, or $59 at current exchange; 64 euros, or $88, and 89 euros, or $122, respectively.
