For the first time in H&M Design Awards history a US design student is included in this year’s competition and she is a finalist for the People’s Prize. Jia Hua studied in the MFA program at Parsons in New York and her collection consists of elegant chiffon meets sporty meshes. Hua says, “My collection is a mixture of couture hand crafting technique with contemporary sportswear, focusing on fabric, color and comfort.” Fans of Hua can view and vote for her designs on the People’s Prize Microsite opened to the public today.
Hua is one of eight chosen finalists to present their work to an international jury, where a lucky winner will win a cash prize and the chance to present their collection during Mercedes-Benz Stockholm Fashion Week on January 28th. Hoping to snag a piece of the winner’s collection? Do not worry, part of the prize package is the pieces being sold at select H&M stores this fall.
