Oh how I wish we were headed into New York Fashion Week in September like pictured above. The February shows, while showcasing my favorite fashion season (fall) are a killer. It is undoubtedly the longest week of my life and usually concludes with a major cold or what we all call “The Fashion Week Flu.” If the weather continues to be his hideously cold, it will literally be my version of hell. The Spring shows (the ones in February) are all about the coat, shoes and bag. So take a look at what I consider my essentials for the upcoming shows.
I actually fell in love with and wrote about this coat a few months ago. I have been wearing it regularly since November and it will be the perfect coat for fashion week. It’s like wearing a blanket and I can’t think of anything better.
With my leather pants this will be perfect for a more casual show day.
Joseph Anais Shearling Coat, $2,895
This coat is going to be essential if the weather is freezing cold.
Matt Bernson Maxwell Suede Booties, $137.50
You need something, flat, comfortable and with a tread. I laugh at the idiots who teeter on ridiculous mile high heels when the steps to Lincoln Center are a sheet of ice and the roads are slush. I love this particular pair because they have a pointed toe and knew I had too have them the moment I saw them. I know suede is probably not the best idea, but I sprayed the hell out of them, so I hope they survive the week.
I wrote about these boots back in October. I loved them then and I love them now. They are perfect for long days with their 2.5″ stacked heel and will look perfect with leather leggings or a skirt/dress (should I dare to wear one).
For me the tote is essential during fashion week. I just don’t get the women who carry these tiny little bags. I suppose they are not really working. I can’t even fathom not carrying one. Truth is, I will have workout clothes hiding in mine in case I have a chance to sneak over to exhale to take a Core Fusion class (shhh). I was fortunate enough to get the last Mansur Gavriel large black with red leather lining tote just before Thanksgiving from the Theory store and have been carrying it every day since. In fact, it may look a little worse for wear by next week … I love it that much.
This is the bag I really want! So does everyone else apparently since it’s nearly impossible to get your hands on one. My tote will have to suffice until I can score one. So whenever I see someone at Fashion Week with one (I’m sure I’ll see several) I will secretly be cursing them.
While I fear I will see plenty of backpacks, I just can’t go there. Too early 90’s for me. So even though this bag is also a backpack, I would only carry it as a drawstring bag. Sorry. It is a nice alternative to the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag I can’t get.
I know the leather pant for spring is cropped and while I am sure I will see many women wearing them because they will want us all to know they are ahead of the fashion curve, there is no way any part of my leg will be exposed!
I have been living in this scarf all winter and I don’t see me leaving it at home for the shows. It is warm and cozy.
I will be wearing these underneath my pants if the temperatures dip below 20 degrees. That, you can take to the bank!
