Minimum Wage Debate Becomes Global Issue

In President Obama’s State of the Union speech raising the minimum wage took center stage. Urging companies to raise the wage from $7.25 to $10.10 has become a major issue with companies. Costco has already put the plan into affect, paying their workers well above the minimum wage. New York has taken baby steps to reach that $10.10 goal by passing a three-step wage increase. Some wonder if this will have an affect on the job hi rings but others think it is a risk we may have to take.

Michael George Dies at 66

Michael George, a floral designer for the fashion industry, died January 20 at his Manhattan home. Liver cancer sadly took his life at the age of 66. George created bouquets of monochromatic and minimalist floral creations for designers like: Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, and Michael Kors. How George found his talent was completely by accident too. He was just washing tulips he saw how “they twirled like bar straws or pencils in a glass.” Apparently when you are destined to do something it will find you.

 Barneys’ Reveals Limited-Edition Fragrance

Barneys New York has has collaborated with jeweler Irene Neuwirth. Her cool California vibe will be bottled in a new limited-edition fragrance and will hit the beauty department this week. Following Greg Lauren and L’Wren Scott, Neuwirth is Barneys’ third participant in their designer fragrance series. The scent was inspired by Neuwirth’s memories at the beach and will have notes of neroli, orange flower, jasminum sambac, rose, coconut, vanilla and musk. Priced at $195, you better hurry only 3,000 units were produced!
