Stores targeted towards the teen demographic are showing signs of struggle. In a recent survey stores such as Abercrombie, Wet Seal and American Eagle fared worse than every other retail category in the fourth quarter of last year. The reasons behind teens losing interest in shopping at these stores could be their high unemployment rate, their need to have the most recent high-tech devices (instead of the latest pair of Jimmy Choos) and their growing love for online shopping. More than three-fourths of teenagers shop online where they can find very specific items.
