Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Kate Mara, and Anna Kendrick have all started an amazing 2014 – and it’s not just because they are A-list superstars. With their statement prints, streamlined pieces and of-the-moment trends these women have not only shown the world who the next generation of lead actresses are but also what they should be wearing. Have you done a double take yet? Here’s why these four celebrities are ones to watch in 2014.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that actress Lupita Nyong’o has made quite the splash in 2014. That also goes without saying in the fashion department. The UK’s Daily Mail reported that when they met Nyong’o just six months ago at the Telluride Film Festival, she was still buying her own clothes. Now designers are climbing over each other to be the ones to dress her and she’s proven she’s the “IT” girl to dress. From Peter Pilotto, Chanel, Dior to Calvin Klein – this lady proves she looks stunning in everything! I can’t wait to see what she wears for the Oscars.
Now here comes a special fashion case. Anne Hathaway had quite the year in 2012 and 2013 when she played the role that ultimately won her an Oscar. She also cut her hair and dyed it platinum but that’s another story. Ironically all that hard work (and some bad criticism) pushed Hathaway to want a break. It was a year of changes for her. She decided to stop the movies (for now), spend more time with her husband, and yes, change her style. First came the news that she and her former stylist Rachel Zoe had parted ways. Suddenly, Hathaway’s style completely changed. She swapped Valentino for slack and masculine suits, including the sophisticated Chloe in the picture above. The vote is still out on whether she looks better now. What do you think?
Kate Mara‘s style was never something I had my eyes on. It was always sister Rooney that we were all rooting for – after all, she pulled off that tough gothic romance so well. And Kate, well, she was the good sister, the safe one – that is until she began playing that persistent Zoe Barnes on House of Cards. Now, she’s dyed her red hair a prominent blonde and I can’t help but actually love it on her. Yes, Roland Mouret minidresses and Yigal Azrouel jackets are her thing, but she also experiments with print and cut-out Prada and cropped Dior. I hope she keeps surprising us, if you know what I mean…
I knew that Anna Kendrick knew how to dress but I never held her up to fabulous fashionista status – that is, until I saw her in the front row of many major New York Fashion Week shows this season. Jill Stuart, Marchesa, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier – you name it, she was there, and she looked amazing every time. I don’t think I remember one horrible look on Anna Kendrick. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the other celebs.
